10th Annual Friends of the Poor Benefit
Plan to join us for our 10th Annual Friends of the Poor Benefit on Sunday, April 22, 2018, 11 a.m. -3 p.m., at Drury Lane in Oakbrook Terrace. The benefit raises money to help expand grants and other assistance to the conferences and the many volunteers as they serve the poor in the communities across Cook and Lake counties including clients of the Pope Francis Center, a social services agency focused on homelessness prevention.
Festivities include Drury Lane's delicious champagne brunch and entertainment provided by our famous Church Choir Challenge. Attendees are welcome to participate in games of chance, and a grand prize car raffle, sponsored by Ray Buick, to help raise additional funds for those in need.
The Church Choir Challenge is open to any adult church choir of any denomination throughout Cook and Lake counties. Interested choirs are asked to submit an entry form at choirchallenge.org by March 14, 2018. The top five choir finalists chosen via online voting are invited to perform live at the benefit to determine a grand prize winner.
The grand prize winning choir receives a $2,500 donation, and each runner-up choir finalist receives $1,000.
We look forward to seeing you there! Visit svdpbenefit.org to learn more and buy tickets.
Society of St. Vincent de Paul—Help Us Help Others
Celebrating 160 years of transforming lives...one person at a time
Since 1857, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Diocesan Council of Chicago has provided a number of services to needy families and individuals in our community, including home visits, housing assistance, disaster relief, education and mentoring, food pantries, dining halls, clothing, assistance with transportation, prescription medication, rent and utility costs, emotional and spiritual support. The Society also works to provide care for the sick, the incarcerated and the elderly.
Vincentian members are called by God to improve the lives of people facing homelessness, economic adversity, and emergency need situations.
More than 800,000 community residents in Cook and Lake counties are served each year; people who wouldn't have had anywhere else to turn to for help without the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. We are an international society of charity comprised of every ethnic group, age group and cultural background. We make no distinction in those being served regardless of their individual backgrounds, because Vincentians see the face of Christ in those they serve.
